Amidas's origins date back to 1991 and coincide with the birth of Slovenia as a new, independent country.
We began by providing an English translation service for the Slovenian Press Agency (STA), in this way contributing to the effective communication of events in Slovenia around the whole world.

Today, with our many years of experience and a pool of excellent translators, we maintain successful collaborations with a wide range of institutions and businesses both at home in Slovenia and around the world.


Amidas is a founding member of the Translation Companies Section, founded on 8 May 2008 under the aegis of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia and the Association of Management Consulting of Slovenia. The founding of the Translation Companies Section, the first professional association of translation companies and agencies in Slovenia, represents the realisation of a desire long held by translation companies for an association in which members can satisfy their common business, professional and integration interests.
At Amidas we see the association as a great challenge and an opportunity to regulate the translation services market in Slovenia and pursue the further development of the translation sector and the translation profession. Helping the association achieve its ambitious goals will be Amidas technical director Mišo Djurica, who has been elected to the association's administrative committee.

Amidas is involved in the organisation of the forthcoming conference of two international associations of translation companies, ELIA and GALA, due to take place in Ljubljana from 3 to 6 July 2008.

Amidas translator Lili Potpara has translated Cormac McCarthy's novel The Road, the winner of the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for fiction. Like the author's previous novel No Country for Old Men, this novel has been turned into a film and will be appearing on cinema screens later this year.

In mid-March 2008 the Amidas team attended the conference of the European Language Industry Association (ELIA) in Paris. We shared our knowledge and experience in workshops on project management and human resources management.

Amidas is aware of its social responsibility. At the start of 2008 we made donations to the Red Nose Clown Doctors Foundation, the Dobra Misel charity campaign and the Janez Levec Training Institute.

Amidas translator Lili Potpara has translated two remarkable bestsellers: The Female Brain by Louann Brizendine and A Child Is Born by Lennart Nilsson and Lars Hamberger.

Amidas donated funds to help those affected by the floods in Železniki in October 2007.

In June 2007, Amidas organised a meeting in Bled of the European Language Industry Association (ELIA), of which it is a founder member.

The first localisation of a mobile phone interface for the Slovenian market, in the early 1990s, was implemented by Amidas.
 
Amidas collaborated on the translation of the first Slovene version of the Windows XP operating system.
